CrossFit Open

As most of you know I entered the CrossFit open this year for the first time.  It is a worldwide competition to decide who will move onto the actual CrossFit Games.  Now I am not close to qualifying (actually just working to not be in last place)…. but I was talked into giving it a go just to see where I was at.

After they announced the first workout I thought I was done before it started- it was 30 double unders (a jump rope where the rope must go around twice every jump) and then 10 55 lb snatches.  The first major issue was that I have not ever done more than one or two double unders…  so I didn’t think I would get close to attempting the 10 snatches.  I really surprised myself and in 10 minutes I completed 45 double unders and 10 snatches.  I was actually proud of my score and glad it pushed me to work on something I haven’t been able to do before.
When they announced the next work out I once again thought… no chance.  It was 10 overhead squats with 65 lb and then 10 chest to bar pull ups.  Now I had not lifted 65lb in an overhead squat ever and done one chest to bar pull up.  Once again I was encouraged to just try.  I did all the overhead squats and 2 pull ups- for a total score of 12 (the leaders score was close to 200).
I may be at the bottom of the leaderboard, but it has taught me that I can do so much more than I ever thought I was capable of doing.  This week when the workout is announced I will not think… I have no chance to do it, but go into it with a positive attitude that I will try my best and see what I can do.
