Chicago

After an uneventful flight up to Chicago we checked into our hotel. It is a beautiful old hotel in downtown called Palmer House. After a quick drop of the bags we went off to explore a bit and get some lunch.

We found a German restaurant that’s can be traced back to 1870. When the World Fait came to Chicago in 1893 they set up a stall selling their beer for a nickel and you received a feee sandwich! Quite the deal. Fast forward and they are still selling beer and Traditional German food. They have even won a James Beard award!

We of course did some beer sampling, but we kept looking at the art work and thinking it didn’t fit into the German decor.

It looked more Italian or Greek to us. Turns out the painting is of Chicago during the World Fair where they got their start selling beer. Only a small building is left and is now a museum.

After lunch we took a walk through some of the parks and along the river.
