I failed Fran

So this morning I failed at reaching my Fran goal of under 10 minutes by 1 minute and 54 seconds.  I just didn’t have the cardio strength to keep going as the weight wasn’t that heavy and I kept really good form with my pull-ups.

I have to say I was extremely upset afterwords- almost to the point of tears.  I realize my reaching my goal was going to be tough, but I didn’t realize I would be that far off my time.

For those of you who don’t know what Fran is- it is a workout that consists of Thrusters with 65 lb and pull ups.  You do 3 rounds of 21-15-9 reps.  Here is a video of how it should look:

Paleo quiche

This morning Regina came over for some tea and I decided to surprise her with some fresh juice (carrots, kale, bok choy, apple and ginger)

I also made a paleo quiche.  The crust was coconut oil, 2 eggs and some coconut flour. While that was baking I combined some eggs, ground turkey, onions, peppers, coconut milk and spices for the filling.

It turned out very nice I have to say. We finished it off with a nice cup of tea and watched some crossfit!

A great morning I have to say

Greenhouse Cafe

We had a wonderful lunch at The Greenhouse in West Bay.  The restaurant serves mainly locally sourced food in a beautiful ocean side cafe.

We started with some fresh pressed juice and I had a glass of ice Lemongrass and Morina tea. Both were lovely.  Then we moved onto lunch.

Richard ordered the Sweet Chicken salad- it came with sweet pecans, roasted pumpkin, local fruit and flax seeds.

I ordered the Roastie Toastie pizza on a gluten free crust.  It was wonderful and came with a herb roasted chicken, caramelized onions, roasted peppers, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
We finished off lunch with apple cinnamon mini muffins.
Definitely a place everyone should try!

Soft Paws

I first tried Soft Paws when Yabbey was a kitten and it did not go well, but I decided to give it a go one more time with Avery.  Soft Paws are basically a piece of rubber that go over the claw and are glued on like a Lee Press on nail.  I of course got Avery pink… what other color would you get a little girl?  We watched the video off their web site and the cat just sat there calmly as they put them on.  Now we knew that would not be the way it would go with Avery.  I got a beach towel and wrapped her up good while Richard put the first five on.  It went ok- they were not on very straight, but it went better than we expected.  I think she was more upset about being wrapped in a towel than anything else!

For the other set Richard held her and I got them a bit straighter-  we have to have her looking pretty for the Dr. Collin on Monday!

A few of the first round fell off and she did jump around a bit when walking at first, but she seems to be fine with them.
We think she is looking pretty good with her new collar and name tag as well (the collar is of course pink with pirates on it)!

Royals baseball game

We spent our last night in Kansas City at the Royals Stadium.  We had to start off with a drink in the parking lot before the game.

Once we were inside the boys filled up on Cotton Candy, Peanuts, Nachos, Beer and Ice Cream.  Imagine the surprise when both of them didn’t feel great the next morning!

To be honest Laura and I probably talked more than actually watch the game, but it was a beautiful night out!

Rieger Hotel

The Riger hotel was opened in 1915 and was home to many traveling salesman and railroad workers including Al Capone.    It operated until prohibition shut them down in 1919.  Today they focus on the history of the neighborhood with the motto, “Beautiful Food for the People.”

The hotel was owned by Alexander Rieger, whose father founded J. Rieger & Co Whiskey in 1877.  They operated out of the West Bottoms in Kansas City, also known as “The Wettest Block in the World” until prohibition.

We had an amazing meal after some cocktails in the basement.  I ordered the braised pork cheeks with a sweet potato hash, duck egg and green garlic chimichurri.  Unfortunately the sauce didn’t come until I was dune, but it was amazing without it.
Richard had his first ever KC Strip with some asparagus and roasted potatoes… we had to force him to order it and I think he was a little annoyed with us, but after the first bite he said he was glad we were pushy.
After dinner we relaxed with a drink before taking a nice walk down to a street party.  It was a very enjoyable evening with some great friends!
